ضربت المرأة المصرية خلال العصر البيزنطي مثالًا للصبر والعمل، وکذلک ساهمت في النشاط الاقتصادي في مجالات عديدة، وشارکت المرأة في البيع والشراء، وساهم وضعها داخل المجتمع في تلک المشارکة، حيث قدمت المرأة دورًا ملحوظًا في الإنتاج الزراعي والصناعي، ومن ثم شارکت الرجل في بيع وتصريف هذا الإنتاج، وذلک عبر البيع من خلال المنزل أو کبائعة متجولة أو داخل الأسواق، وقد أشارت مجموعات الوثائق البردية للبائعات في مصر، وأظهرت تنوع دور المرأة في هذا المجال، وأفادت في التعرف على نوع المنتجات التي قامت المرأة ببيعها، وکذلک قيامها بإبرام العقود، وانتظامها في النقابات ودفع الضرائب.
 
The Egyptian women during the Byzantine era set an example of patience and work. They also contributed to economic activity in many fields, and their status within society contributed to that participation, as women played a vital role in agricultural and industrial production. So the saleswomen participated men in selling and disposing of this production, through selling at home or as a street vendor or inside the markets, and the papyrus documents referred to women vendors in Egypt, and showed the diversity of the role of women in this profession, and reported on identifying the type of products that women sold, as well as their conclusion of contracts, their regularity in Guilds and the payment of taxes.
