أدت زيادة الأعباء المالية على سکان القرى في العصر الروماني إلى تهرب الکثير منهم ليخفف عن کاهله أثقال الجباية؛ ما دفع الإدارة الرومانية إلى زيادة تدابير الضمان لکي تضمن تحصيل جميع إيراداتها دونما نقصان، ولا يفلت من قبضتها أحد، حتى أنها بالغت في الشطط بجعل جميع سکان القرى ضامنين مشترکين لبعضهم البعض، فإن هرب أحد السکان أو أصبح عاجزًا عن السداد تحاسب عنه القرية بأکملها، وهو الأمر الذي يسلط عليه الضوء في هذا البحث من خلال الوثائق البردية التي قدمت لنا صورة واضحة عن هذا الإجراء وطريقة تطبيقه في ثلاثة أنواع من الالتزامات وهي: مستحقات الدولة، والأعمال الإلزامية، وزراعة الأراضي المخصصة من قبل الدولة. ذلک بالإضافة إلى حصر الوثائق التي تشير إلى هذا الإجراء لتوضيح مدى انتشاره زمنيًا. 
The increase in financial burdens on villagers in the Roman era led many of them to flee to ease these burdens. This prompted the Roman administration to increase surety measures in order to guarantee that all their revenues were fully collected, and no one slipped from their grasp. They went too far in tyranny by making all the inhabitants of the villages’ joint guarantors for each other, so if one of them escaped or became unable to pay, the entire village would be held accountable for it. This is highlighted in this research through papyrus documents that provided us with a clear picture of this procedure and the method of its application in three types of obligations; state dues, compulsory services, and cultivation of lands allocated by the state. In addition, these documents clarify the procedures and the extent of its temporal spread.
