الكتابة القبطية المُعماة هي تلك الكتابة السرية التي يستعملها فئة معينة من الكتبة بحيث لا يستطيع باقي البشر إدراكها وتفسيرها، ففي خلال رحلة إكتشاف النصوص القبطية المُعماة وُجد حوالي ثلاثون نصًا قبطيًا يتسمون بالتعمية تنوعت أسباب كتاباتها وطريقة عرضها حيث إن التعمية لها ثلاثة أبجديات؛ نستطيع من خلالها التعرف عليها، وكل أبجدية لها سماتها وطريقة التعامل معها وطريقة فك الشفرة من خلالها، بالإضافة إلى الأغراض التي دفعت كتبة النصوص إلى استخدام تلك الميزة الكتابية والوصول إلى النتيجة المرجوة من ذلك؛ فالنصوص المُعماة لم تكن مهمة فقط لموضوعاتها بل ولأنها مُميَّزة في طريقة التعرف عليها؛ حيث إنها تتسم بالتعقيد والغموض إضافة إلى الخلفية التاريخية والحاجة إلى استخدامها يكشف جوانب حضارية عدة، كان لابد من إزاحة الستار عنها وإيضاحها إلى حد كبير، والعمل على إظهار نقاط الضعف والقوة لتلك السمة الكتابية المسماة بالمُعماة، وعلى هذا فإن الدراسة استعرضت أنماط الكتابة المُعماة، ونصوصها، وطريقة فك الشفرة، والمواطن المستخرج منها النصوص، واختتمت الدراسة بالنتائج وملحق الخرائط الخاصة بمواطن النصوص.
