Researchers are kindly requested to consider the following rules when submitting their research:
Firstly, the general rules:
1. The Bulletin of the Center for Papyrological Studies and Inscriptions, is an annual periodical specialized in publishing papyri, inscriptions, ostraca, ancient currency, or other related studies such as: language, literature, history, archeology, art, sculpture, religion, philosophy, restoration, and social activities in ancient civilizations such as the Egyptian, the Greek., the Roman, and the civilizations of the Ancient Near East. No research will be accepted outside of these disciplines.
2. The research is sent through the bulletin’s website to the Egyptian Knowledge Bank after paying the fees prescribed for refereeing. https://bcps.journals.ekb.eg
3. The researcher has to fill out a form containing their personal data and the data about the research submitted for publication and he or she has to submit it either on paper to the Unit of Scientific Publishing at the Center for Papyrological Studies and Inscriptions, Faculty of Archeology, Ain Shams University or electronically through the bulletin’s website to the Egyptian Knowledge Bank.
4. After the refereeing stage and the acceptance of the research for publication, the researcher has to pay the cost of printing and publishing. Then he or she has to follow-up the research formatting, the application of the rules of publishing, and the linguistic revision, with the editorial board via the bulletin’s website of the publishing unit. The research is to be considered as acceptable for publication only after the researcher has fulfilled all the aforementioned requirements of the referees and the reviewers of the publication unit.
5. Conforming to the decisions of the Center’s Board of Directors, research projects are to be accepted from January until the end of June of each year or until the number of the required research projects is completed (whichever is closer).Accepted research that fulfills the editorial and the publication requirements are to be published in December of the same year of the research submission. Firstly, the publication of the research is going to be electronic on the bulletin's website, and then it is going to be printed in paper after that in the bulletin's annual issue.
6. The researcher is not allowed to publish more than one research in one issue, and what is more than that is deferred to the next issue after fulfilling the requirements of publication. It is to be noted that the number of pages of the research submitted for publication should not exceed twenty-five pages, including images and figures. What is more than this is counted as extra pages with a maximum of forty pages for the entire research.
7. The research is written in the form of Microsoft Word, including images and shapes.
8. The size of the page is A4 with margins of 3 cm on all four sides and single spacing.
9. The space of five units is to be left at the beginning of each paragraph and is to be inserted electronically not manually.
10. The title of the research is to be written in the center of the paper in font 14 Simplified Arabic/Bold and in font 12 Times New Roman/Bold for the research in a foreign language.
11. The research begins with the Arabic abstract (100-200 words) followed by the key words.
12. What follows is an English translation of the following data (metadata) in the same size of the fonts used in the Arabic version:
13. The researcher concludes his research with the conclusion page or the results page followed by the appendices and the figures (if any) then followed by the list of the sources and the references and their abbreviations arranged alphabetically as hinted below:
14. For the research submitted in Arabic font 12 Simplified Arabic font 12Times New Roman and for the research submitted in a foreign language the font 12 IFAO-Grec for texts in Greek.
15. In the research written in Arabic the fonts of the titles are 13 Bold followed by a ":" whereas the research written in a foreign language the font size of the titles is 12 without underlining.
16. Please do not leave a space between the conjunction (and) ‘waw’ and the word following it in the research written in the Arabic language. As for the punctuation marks, a space must be left after the period, a comma or a question mark and do not leave a space before the punctuation marks.
17. When using parentheses or inverted commas (quotation marks) do not leave spaces inside them, but leave before and after them only if they are not at the end of a sentence.
18. Put two dots under the ' yaa’ ' when it occurs at the end of the word and delete them in the soft ‘alif’.
19. The 'Tanween' Nunation is placed on the letter that precedes the letter ‘alif’ and not on the letter itself.
20. The footnotes are placed at the bottom of each page electronically. The footnote number is written at the top in the form of (superscript) with separate numbering for each page (i.e. the footnote of each page begins with a number 1).The footnote numbers are written without parentheses, either in the text or in the footnote. No space is left before the footnote number in the text, but a single space is left after the footnote number in the footnotes. The numbers are Hindi (1 2 3...) in the body of the research in the research written in Arabic. The numbers are Arabic (1 2 3...) in the research written in English.
21. In a research written in Arabic or in a foreign language, please write the footnotes in font 10.
22. When the research is written in a foreign language and the researcher uses references or articles in a different language such as Arabic or Greek, the references and the articles are written at the end of the documentation followed by (in Arabic) or (in Greek). Also, the name of the reference along with the title can be written in the same language of the research itself.
23. When using a text in Greek, Latin, Arabic, Hebrew or any other language, the text and its translation are placed between quotation marks “…” in a font smaller in size by a degree in the middle of the page.
24. In a research written in a foreign language, Arabic nouns and verbs are to be written in Roman letterers and are never to be italicized. In this case, the CARS system is followed as available in the following website: https://bcps.journals.ekb.eg/
25. It is necessary to add a list of sources and references at the end of the research, and when using any source, reference or article in the Arabic language in the list of sources and references, it is rewritten again at the bottom of each reference, in Romanization according to the aforementioned rules (CARS).
26. It is preferable that Greek words be written in the Greek language. In any other research, Greek names are never italized and are written in Roman letters as the system in the link below illustrates.
https://bcps.journals.ekb.eg/ 27.The shapes and the images used in the research are the responsibility of the researcher, and the researcher must have obtained official approvals to publish them from the authorities that own the rights to publish them.
28. The number of any shape, picture, map, table, or graph... has to be placed below it, and the numbers have to be serialized along the research, with a definition of it, and mentioning its source.
29.The figures and the images included in the research have to be presented in high quality, not less than 600X800 dpi, if not higher.
30. The maps used in the research have to be submitted after completion of the rules of preparation.
31. Researches submitted by master’s and doctoral students only include the researcher's name placed in the number index and below the title in the text. The name of the supervisor shall be written in a special footnote to the title of the main research. An example of a footnote is as follows: This research is part of a master's thesis (or PhD) submitted to the Department of Ancient Egyptian Archeology, Faculty of Archeology, Ain Shams University, under the supervision of Prof. Dr....
32. The research is not considered as acceptable for publication until the researcher completes all the remarks and the modifications that the referees decide, on and finishes the amendments related to the language of the research.
33. Refereeing is confidential, and the researcher is not allowed to know the referees or obtain any statement about them.
34. What is submitted for publication in the bulletin must not have been previously published in any other bulletin under any name.
35. The researcher may not re-publish the research in any other journal except after obtaining the approval of the center’s administration or after five years have passed since its printing and publication in the center’s bulletin. If the researcher breaches this, he or she shall be stopped from publishing for a period of no less than two years, and the publication fees shall be doubled for when he or she submits to publish again in the bulletin.
36. The bulletin is not responsible for the opinions or quotes contained in the published research. The researcher has the legal responsibility to obtain permission to use scientific material such as papyrus, inscriptions, old currency, or any other archaeological material. This includes photocopies of Articles posted to be printed as well.
37. The researcher receives from the center five extracts of their research after publication, in addition to a statement of publication.

39. Secondly, Rules for documenting references, research, foreign articles, etc. in the footnotes and the list of sources and references:
A)- How to document Arabic Sources and references:
1- When documenting Arabic references, please write the author’s full name (not just the family name), then the name of the reference or source followed by the part number, if any, (then the data of the place of publishing: the publisher, and the year of publication in parentheses). After that, write the page numbers between parentheses without the letter (p).
For Example:طه حسين، على هامش السيرة النبوية، ج1، (القاهرة: الهيئة المصرية العامة للکتاب، 1994)، 125.
When the same reference is used for the second time, it is mentioned briefly as follows: طه حسين، السيرة النبوية، ج1، 121-128.
2- For authors of books with religious titles, write only the name of the author and the title or ecclesiastical rank is written between parentheses as in the following example:
غريغوريوس (الأنبا)، الکلمات اليونانية في اللغة القبطية، (القاهرة: جمعية الأنبا غريغوريوس، 2010)، 50.
3- To document articles, write the author’s name (if it is one or more), then the article title between quotation marks (“”), then the journal’s name, issue, and the year of publication between parentheses, then the pages without “p” after a colon (:).
For example:
طارق منصور ونهى سالم، "إلمام المسلمين باللغة الرومية في العصر البيزنطي الأوسط"، مجلة مرکز الدراسات البردية والنقوش، عدد 28، (2011): 215- 216.
- When the same article is used for the second time, it is documented in the following way: the author's name, the article title is abbreviated and included between quotation marks, and then the page numbers (without mentioning the number, name or date of the journal).
For example:
طارق منصور ونهى سالم، "إلمام العرب المسلمين باللغة الرومية"، 216-221.
- To document the article in the list of references; write the full name of the author (or authors), the name of the article between quotation marks, the name of the periodical or the journal, the number of the issue, the publication year and all the number of the pages.
As in:
طارق منصور ونهى سالم، "إلمام المسلمين باللغة الرومية في العصر البيزنطي الأوسط"، مجلة مرکز الدراسات البردية والنقوش، عدد 28، (2011): 215- 236.
4- To document the sources, use the same method of documenting the references:
أبو جعفر بن جرير الطبري، تاريخ الرسل والملوک، ج5، (بيروت: دار الکتب العلمية، د.ت.)، 316-319.
- If the source is used for the second time, only the last name of the author is written, followed by the shortened name of the book, the part (if found), and the page number. For example:
الطبري، تاريخ الرسل والملوک، ج7، 226.
5- When moving from one source to another, a semicolon is used ‘;’.When moving from source to reference, a period is written ‘.’ followed by the phrase ‘see also’: ...
6- Published university theses (Master's or PhD) are documented in the same way published books are documented.
7- Unpublished theses are written as follows:
The name of the researcher, “the title of the thesis between quotation marks”, and between parentheses it is written (the type of thesis; master’s or doctoral with an indication that it is not published, the university or the institution that awarded the degree, the date of granting), then the page numbers.
For example:
زينب محمد توفيق إبراهيم، "الزواج عند إغريق مصر في عصر الرومان"، (رسالة ماجستير غير منشورة، قسم التاريخ، کلية الآداب، جامعة عين شمس، 1982)، 39-46.
8- For translated books: write the author’s full name, then the book’s name, the part number (if any), the name of the translator and the language from which it was translated, then data (place of printing, publisher, and year of publication between parentheses), and after the parentheses the page numbers are written as in the following example:
أرسطوطاليس، نظام الأثينيين، ترجمة طه حسين، (القاهرة: دار المعارف بمصر، 1921)، 155-158.
9- In books edited for the first time, when a chapter or an article is included in the research: write the full name of the author of the chapter or the article, the title of the chapter or article between quotation marks, the title of the book, the full name of the editor and then (location: publishing house, year of publication), the page number.
- A chapter or an article in books edited for the second time: write the full name of the author of the chapter or the article, the shortened title of the chapter or the article, the page number.
10- E-books published on the internet are treated as printed books with the addition of the website for the book and when it was last visited on the internet.
11- For documenting Arabic references or sources in the list of references or sources at the end of the research, please note the following:
- The sources or the references are arranged alphabetically.
- Write the full name of the author of the reference, starting with the first name, not the last name.
- The name of the book is not italicized.
- The place of publication, the name of the publisher, and the year of publication are preceded by a colon (:) and are not written between parentheses.
- In the research written in the Arabic language, Arabic references are written before foreign references, while the research written in foreign languages vice versa is applied.
B. How to write foreign sources and references in the footnotes and in the list of sources and references
- Citation of a book by one author or multiple authors for the first time:
