Chickpea (ἐρέβινθος) was among the first legumes known to man in the ancient world, although archaeological and linguistic evidence of early human use of it is limited. Despite this, we can draw a reasonable picture of its history through references to him in literary sources and papyri dated to the Ptolemaic and Roman eras. This research is concerned with studying the origin of the chickpea, its types, the date of its cultivation, the time of its harvest, and the spread of its cultivation during the Ptolemaic and Roman eras within many Egyptian nomoi. Finally, this research sheds light on its prices and uses.
