Terms referring to Holes and Its Synonyms in Medical and Religious Contexts

Abstract

The terms that refer to holes varied in the ancient Egyptian language; they were widely used in many areas in the life of the ancient Egyptians. Therefore, the textual sources replete of many phrases and contexts that include these terms. This study tackles words in hieroglyphic scripts which express the meanings of holes, cavities, punctures and perforations through the medical papyri and religious books. The study aims to monitor the most important words written with the determinative of a circle and a house that expressing a hole and cavity, as: bA, bAbA, bAbAw, bbt, thm or terms with other determinatives that express the same meaning, such as: msAdt, whb. This is done through medical papyri, whether it was mentioned in diagnosis and treatment, or implemented in cases of surgery. The research also aims to study these vocabularies in the ancient Egyptian religious thought through the religious books, and how it was used and in which context?
