Abstract

Temporary loan exhibitions can bring together museum collections that may be scattered across multiple museums, reconstructing an original context and providing new insights or a different way of viewing and understanding items in museum collections. The entire exhibition, along with associated services such as insurance, shipping, storage, conservation, installation, and preparation, can then be loaned to one or more locations to extend the exhibition's life and allow as many audiences as possible -regionally, nationally, or internationally- to experience these collections and the stories they contain.
The research project is based on two axes:
- The theoretical aspect: Studying and explaining the general methodology governing loan exhibitions, i.e., the stages of preparing museum collections for loan, shipping, packaging, transporting, and securing them. It also attempts to address the ideal frameworks for loan exhibitions followed in international museums. These preparation stages are then applied to each museum collection, regardless of its type and size.
- The applied aspect: This includes field museum research, represented by reviewing archival documents related to the Zelal Ibn Sina exhibition, loaned from the Museum of Islamic Art in Cairo to the Arab World Institute, Paris, in accordance with the frameworks governing loan exhibitions.
